Over the years we have proudly awarded our rising NASP Detroit Scholars over $600,000 and counting! Please know that our commitment to making a difference for the deserving students of Greater Metro Detroit is strong and unwavering, especially in the face of the present-day attack against (DEI) diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We invite you to reference the Personal Statement Resources link to learn more about this important topic.

Our theme for this 18th year is: “Higher Education for Higher Minds!”  We look forward to reviewing this year’s insightful, action-oriented Personal Statements surrounding the DEI topic.

APPLICANTS MUST BE:

  • A resident of the Metro-Detroit area, AND
  • A high school graduate entering a 2-year or 4-year institution of higher learning, skilled trades program, continuing education program, OR
  • A student currently enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year institution of higher learning, skilled trades program, continuing education program, OR
  • A graduate student currently enrolled in a graduate program.

YOU MUST ALSO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AS PART OF YOUR APPLICATION PACKET:

  1. Proof of college enrollment/attendance or proof of college acceptance/admittance
  2. A copy of a recent transcript
  3. One (1) Letter of Recommendation:
    • Letters must be from a non-relative (i.e. mentor, counselor/advisor, employer, or pastor/minister).
    • Letters must include the name, address, phone number, and number of years the recommender has known the applicant.
  4. A Personal StatementDEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) is under attack in higher education throughout our country today: In 500 words or less please define DEI, what you believe are the ramifications of this current state, and what needs to be done to offset any potential regressive and harmful outcomes.

The completed application is due Sunday, June 30, 2024 @11:59 pm (EST).  PLEASE NOTE: Any submissions after the designated due date will NOT be considered.  Failure to submit all required documentation may disqualify you from scholarship consideration.
